Goring Road Runners was founded in 1984 and we currently have around 35 club members. We are a UK Athletics member and a member of the West Sussex Fun Run League (WSFRL) which organises mostly off road races up to 10k amongst its 18 league members.
Our race is the first in this series each year, the aptly named Hangover 5 off road race, (link below), usually one or two days after the New Year excesses!
We meet twice a week, (Tuesday and Thursday evenings) at the Sidney Walter Centre in Worthing for a mix of training sessions including speed work, hill reps and the occasional longish run. Want to try a half marathon or marathon for the first time and not overly worried about your times? We’ve runners who’ll buddy up and help your training along!
In the summer months we take advantage of the fine evenings and proximity to the South Downs for our Tue/Thu training runs and our club handicap and knockout cup races. These trail runs are typically between 3 and 6 miles.
We are a small and friendly club, welcoming new members of all ages and all running ability including complete beginners. Members regularly run races from 5k to 50k; some fast, some slow and some walk-run. On club nights we will always endeavour to make sure no-one is left to run on their own.
On the social side, the club organises several events including a summer BBQ, curry evenings, race nights and quiz nights during the winter season.
In support of several national campaigns to encourage more women to take up exercise and sporting activities, (e.g. the Sport England This Girl Can initiative), Goring Road Runners are considering organising weekly sessions specifically for beginners or those returning after a long break from running. These will be walk or walk/run sessions and importantly, fun, so if you are interested use the “contact us” form on the web site for more information and reassurance!
